Remote Online Notarization Made Simple

Remote online notarization — sometimes called RON — is a way to have a document notarized over the internet instead of in person. A signer and a commissioned electronic notary meet through approved audio and video technology, and the notary completes the notarization remotely. With Notary Pop, that whole process is designed to feel simple and straightforward.

What is a remote online notary?

A remote online notary is a commissioned notary public who is authorized to perform notarizations electronically. Just like a traditional notary, they verify your identity, witness your signature, and confirm you’re signing willingly — but they do it through a secure video session rather than in person.

The technology is the key difference. Instead of meeting at a desk, you and the notary connect through approved audio and video tools that let the notary see you, verify your ID, and watch you sign in real time.

How remote online notarization works

In everyday terms, here’s what happens during a remote notarization session:

1. You schedule a session and share the document that needs notarizing.
2. You complete identity verification, usually with a government-issued photo ID.
3. You meet the electronic notary over secure audio and video.
4. The notary witnesses your signature and completes the eligible notarization.

You can walk through the full process step by step on our how to notarize a document online page.

Why people choose remote notarization

• Notarize from anywhere. Join from home, the office, or wherever you have a stable connection.
• Skip the trip. No driving, no waiting rooms, no coordinating around office hours.
• Convenient scheduling. Book a session that fits your day.
• Secure sessions. Approved audio and video technology keeps the process private and verifiable.

What you’ll need

For most remote online notarizations you’ll want a valid, government-issued photo ID, the document you need notarized, and a device with a camera and microphone. A stable internet connection keeps the session smooth.

Not every document can be notarized remotely, and rules vary by state. If you’re unsure whether your document is eligible, it’s worth checking before you book.
